Rule Changes that will affect the 2024 Kerr County Livestock Show
 
Market Swine Department
 
#1 The department will have an official weigh in on the night preceding the show.
#7 Omit rule. Exhibitors are responsible for filling out weight cards and turning them in by the designated time.
#9 Gilts may double enter the market and the breeding show.
 
Registered Breeding Gilt Department:
 
#2 Pedigreed gilts must be farrowed between June1 and Sept 10 of the previous year.
#3 Classes will be broken by weight.  There will be no weight limit-top or bottom
 #4 Gilts may double enter the breeding and market show.
 
Non Pedigreed Breeding Swine Department
 
Rule # 3 Minimum weight limit will change from 190 to150 and maximum weight of 340.
Rule #4 There will be an official weigh in starting at 6:00 PM.
Rule#5 Gilts may double enter the breeding and market show.
 
Lamb Department:
 
Change Southdown and Dorpers to have a minimum weight of 85lbs.
All Market Lambs will have no maximum weight.
Head stations or tables are allowed in the exhibitor's pen or in a designated area as determined by the Department Superintendent, if space is available.
Cordless clippers and cordless blow dryers are allowed.
 
Meat Goat Department
 
Rule #1; Wether or doe goats may be shown.
Rule #2; Meat goat exhibitors are allowed up to six (6) entries; no more than two (2) per class.
Rule #4; Goat’s horns must be tipped dime size or larger with no sharp edges.
Rule #6; There will be an official weigh and sift the night before the show. Goats weighing less than 60 pounds and more than 115 pounds will be sifted.
Rule #9; Cordless clippers and cordless blow dryers are allowed
Rule #11; Omit this rule.Exhibitors are responsible for filling out weight cards and turning them in by the designated time.
Rule #18; Head stanchions or tables are allowed in the exhibitor's pen or in a designated area as determined by the Department Superintendent, if space is available.
Steer and Heifer Department
 No Changes
 
2024 Kerr County Doe Show
Rules:
  1. General Rules apply to Junior Doe Show. Please refer to General Show Rules.
  2.  Show is open to any breed or crossbreed doe kids. Exhibitors must have possession and primary care of the animal throughout the feeding period, prior to November 1 of the previous year. Each goat must be tagged and validated in accordance with the guidelines as approved by the Texas Education Agency Department of Agriculture Education and Texas Agriculture Extension.
  3. Does in the kid class will need to be officially weighed in.
  4. Doe kids will be broken into 3 classes by weight.
  5. The only tags allowed in their ears are state validation, TGBA, and scrapie tags. All others must be removed i.e. breeder tags.
  6. Does must weigh a minimum of 50 pounds and there is no maximum. Only does may be shown in the doe show.
  7. At the time of show, does must not possess more than their first set of yearling teeth for 2024 show.
  8. Hair -no restrictions on length, does may be clipped to the discretion of the exhibitor, clipping for the Kerr County Doe Show isn’t required, but recommended that they are cleaned up to exhibit the doe’s feminine features. 
  9. Blow and show, only. No painting, adhesives, powdering, or artificial coloring is allowed.
  10. No external parasites will be allowed. If a goat has external parasites, it will be disqualified.
  11. Goat Age: Goats will be shown according to tooth development. (2024: Show Doe Kids only, 2025: Doe Kids, Two-Tooth/Yearling, 2026: Doe Kid, Two-Tooth, and Aged)
  12. Dehorning of goats is not suggested, however, horns should be tipped and rounded. Goats with horns sharper than deemed safe by the Show Superintendent or Show Management will be required to be tipped or rounded or the animal will be isolated and not shown. Removal of the horns on the grounds is not permitted. No sharp points allowed on horns.
  13. All 1st place does will compete for the Grand Champion Doe. Remaining 1st place does and 2nd place of the class winner will compete for Reserve Champion Doe kid.
